Brother Captain Karlaen, Commander of the 1. Company of the Blood Angels, Shield of Baal, reports for duty.
Today’s model the Commander of the 1. Company of the Blood Angels will be used as a “count as Belial”. I would like to field a Deathwing army list the Blood Angel way. Within my regular Blood Angel lists there are hardly any Terminators at all. But I like the models way to much to not field them at all. In an earlier blog entry I shared my thoughts regarding the conversion of the model and how I would imagine the Archangels of the 1. Company of the Blood Angels to go as Deathwing Terminators: Archangel Brother Captain Karlaen, Shield of Baal
The conversion came along quite tricky as I wanted to establish a clear border between Captain Karlaen’s and Brother Sergeant Lorenzo’s model from the Space Hulk board game. In the end it should be obvious who’s the boss if both models are painted and together on the table. Next to the golden armor, Karlaen got a Cherub accompanying him. On its banderole I attached a gothic looking number one next to a winged blood tear. I think this should show that it is really the boss of the first Company who walks the battlefield and hunts down the evil dudes in the Emperor’s name.

Unfortunately I couldn’t find any official references for the Blood Angels’ banner of the 1. Company during my research. That’s why I came up with something on my own. Karlaen’s weapon shield got inspired by the banners of the 2nd and the 3rd company. I went for the yellow and red background and used the surname “Shield of Baal” to get a winged shield. Et voilà – my very own version of Brother Captain Karlaen’s coat of arms for his weapon shield got finished.

Now the time has come to present my version of Brother Captain Karlaen, going by the rules of Belial.

For now Karlaen has to be patient as I have only 5 Terminators ready for action yet. That’s not enough to go out hunting chaos scum.
